AboutFlowmates
We build the missing signal for distributed teams: the one that tells you someone has been stuck for three days, without telling you what they typed.
What we refuse to do
Surveillance trackers and blank timesheets both fail the same way: they produce activity numbers and call it understanding. The rules below are constraints on the product, not marketing lines. They come straight from what the teams we interviewed said they would never install.
Context before the conversation
A signal is a fact plus an invitation to talk, never an accusation. “TICKET-42, fourteen hours over three days” — not “Paul is behind.”
Nobody gets ranked
No leaderboard, no individual score, no comparison between teammates. Flowmates reports on work, not on people.
The worker holds the machine
Analysis runs on device. No keystroke logging, no random screenshots, no live feed. Exports are explicit, and the code is open to read.
Our Story
What we heard
We ran six interviews with product managers and team leads running distributed teams of five to fifteen people. We expected to hear about time tracking. We heard something else: “Status does not equal understanding.” Five of the six brought up silent blockers without being asked.
What that costs
Five to eight hours a week checking in manually to find out where each person actually stands, plus ninety minutes every Friday rebuilding the report from chat threads and half-updated tickets. Meanwhile juniors and remote engineers search alone and escalate last, because asking for help too early looks worse than being late.
What we built
One interview defined the product: “I realized they were blocked because I saw a gap between their high activity and the absence of progress.” Sustained effort on work that is not moving is computable. Flowmates computes it on device and hands the team lead a fact worth a conversation, before Friday.
Where we stand
The market we serve has already rejected keystroke counts, click rates and random screenshots. Hubstaff and Time Doctor sell management control. We sell worker empowerment, and we think that is the only version of this product a distributed team will actually keep installed.

Protect your focus.
The report writes itself. Nobody is watching you.
